Electrical Engineering is one of the conventional branches of Engineering like Civil and Mechanical. Whatever may be the nature of any Industry or Works, it is always incomplete without the Electric Power Supply. Electrical Engineering therefore plays an important role.
The programme is well designed to develop the knowledge and skills to connect, operate and perform quality test on various electrical Equipment. It gives knowledge in Planning, Estimation and Installation of Electrical wiring. The Department of Electrical Engineering has a well qualified and experienced staff. It has a number of well equipped laboratories and workshops.
Presently the intake capacity to the programme is 40 in 1st and 60 in 2nd Shift. The course is spread over a span of 3 years, each year comprising of 2 semesters. At the end of each semester, examinations are conducted by the Sate Board of Technical Education, Panchkula.
Electrical engineering has many sub-disciplines, the most popular of which are poser
engineering, control engineering, power electronics, electric machines and drives,
Altough there are electrical engineers who focus exclusively on one of these
sub-disciplines, many deal with a combination of them.
Power engineering deals with the generation, transmission and distribution of
electricity as well as the design of a range of related devices. These includes
transformers, electric generators, electric motors, high voltage engineering
and power electronics, control engineering focuses on the modelling of a diverse
range of dynamic systems and the design of controllers that will cause these systems
to behave in the desired manner. To implement such controllers Elecric engineers may use
electrical circuits, digital signal processors, micro controllersand
PLCs.
